A safe, confidential and reflective space to explore whatever is concerning you
I am a person-centred counsellor and psychotherapist providing both short- and long-term therapy to adults and young people. I am based in Edinburgh, and also offer counselling by telephone or online, using Zoom.
I aim to offer an empathic, non-judgemental therapeutic relationship in which we can talk openly and genuinely. I believe people have the resources within themselves to respond to the challenges they face, and that it is my role to help them identify and develop that capacity.
I welcome opportunities to work with people from all social locations and intersections. As a fully-qualified psychotherapist, I am registered with UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy) and abide by their code of ethics. I am also a qualified person-centred supervisor and trainer.

Therapy provides a space for you to bring any thoughts and feelings about any subject, and to be listened to without judgement. Each person is unique and has experienced life differently, and I will endeavour to listen attentively to you, and to respond to your particular situation. Together we can explore and reflect what it is like for you, and consider what resources are available to you, and how therapeutic change might occur for you.
In therapy I will encourage you to go at the pace that feels right for you. I will support you in facing challenges, and value you for who you are. You will not be on your own with your concerns, and we'll find ways of working together that suit you. In my experience, forming a strong working relationship is at the heart of therapy.
I've lived in Edinburgh on and off through my adult life. I love the city and the easy access to hills and to the coast, both near and far.
I came to counselling and psychotherapy in 2010 from a background in education and the arts. I feel we can all draw on our lived experience to understand ourselves and others better, as well as to feel more connected with ourselves and those we choose to connect with.
You are free to bring whatever seems challenging to you. Here are some of the concerns in life that I have often worked with:
Trauma and post-traumatic stress
Adverse Childhood Experiences
Physical/Emotional/Sexual Abuse and Neglect
Feelings of anxiety or depression
Relationship issues
Problems with family or school life
ADHD, Autism and other neurodiversity
Issues relating to race
Issues relating to sexuality and gender
Grief, loss and bereavement
We all have mental health just as we all have physical health, and throughout our lives we will experience times of good health and ill health. Talking and experiential therapies are a way of supporting our mental health and wellbeing.
As a person-centred therapist, I don’t have a fixed notion of how a person should be, so I’ll work with you to find a way of being together that works for you:
‘Good communication within and between people is always therapeutic’ (Carl Rogers)
Our communication might be about being heard and valued and accepted for exactly who you are.
Together we might work towards expressing emotion and speaking the unspoken, developing self-awareness and self-understanding, towards greater self-acceptance and self-compassion and reducing the (inner) critical voice or the impact of big emotions.
We might explore making changes or planning steps or reconnecting with yourself and others in ways that work better for you.
Therapy offers a breathing space where any of these things can happen.
We often grow up feeling and believing we have to be a certain kind of person and to lead our lives a certain way; we often live our lives by other people's expectations and judgements.
The challenge can be to find our own personal power in the context of our lives:
'It's a grand thing to get leave to live' (Nan Shepherd)
'I am not defined by my scars, but by the incredible ability to heal' (Lemn Sissay)
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how counselling works, or to arrange an initial assessment appointment. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to counselling, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right therapist to help. You can also call me on 07714432512 if you would prefer to leave a message or speak to me first. Concessions are available for those on low wages/unwaged.
I can offer sessions online via Zoom or if you would prefer to meet in person, I can work from Physis Scotland which is located on Drumsheugh Gardens in the west end of Edinburgh. There is local metered parking, and bus routes include 13, 19, 22, 36, 37, 43, 47 and 113. Haymarket Station is less than 15 minutes walk away.
